Okay boys and ghouls, it’s time for my number two picks in my Walking Dead countdown and you know what that means…only one more week until the season three premiere. There’s only seven more days until the Rictatorship begins. I don’t know about you guys, but I’m extremely excited and if the teasers are correct then this is going to be a pretty brutal season. WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD. TURN BACK IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN THE SHOW OR READ THE BOOKS!
#2 Rick Killing Shane
My number two pick is Rick killing Shane and this was one of the best moments of the first two seasons. Rick killing Shane was definitely a long time coming and with two seasons building up to this moment made it all the more worthwhile. What I thought was most interesting about this moment is the fact that on the surface you have two conflicting characters, but underneath there really isn’t much difference. Both men are willing to kill for what’s theirs and they’ll both do what needs to be done. Shane spends so much of the second season trying to ruin Rick and prove that Shane is the man more capable of leading. Unfortunately for Shane, he underestimates Rick and ends up on the business end of a hunting knife.
One of the other reasons that I love this moment is because it shows the progression of Rick’s character and just how far he’s been pushed. From the beginning of this series Rick has been a decent man. He wasn’t around when the zombie apocalypse began, so Rick still has this idea of how life should be. The longer that Rick has to live in this desolate world the more it chips away at him and killing Shane seemed to be the last piece chipped away.
#2 Michonne’s Revenge on the Governor
My number two pick for the comic has to be one of the most brutal moments in the entire series. When readers were first introduced to the Governor he seemed like a good person. He welcomed Rick, Glen and Michonne with open arms into Woodbury, but he proved looks can be very deceiving.
The Governor cut Rick’s hand off and locked up Glen but nothing can compare to what he did to Michonne. I’m not a very squeamish sort of person, but when the Governor tortures Michonne over and over I couldn’t help but feel uneasy. Of course not as uneasy as I did when The Governor finally gets his just deserts. Robert Kirkman and his artists did a great job at creating a gruesome scene without showing too much. They let our minds fill in the nasty parts and then we finally get a glimpse at Michonne’s handy work. Let me tell you, she is not someone I’d want to mess with and in one week we finally get to see this character come to life. Epic is the only word that comes to mind when I think of this next season.
Thanks for reading and don’t forget to watch the premiere on October 14th. You’re not going to want to miss this one.
